But for cinema and fashion history lovers there was plenty more, starting with the two diamond and gold wedding bands given by Burton to Taylor upon their marriage in 1964 and remarriage in 1975.

The rings, estimated before the sale to be worth $6,000 (£3874.51)-$8,000(£5166.01), sold for just over $1m (£645,749).

The campaign will be released internationally in March, and signals the increasingly edgy aesthetic favored by Lagerfeld, with Dellal sporting braids and heavy black eyeliner similar to the looks seen at the designer's Métiers D'Art fashion show earlier this month.

Dellal, whose sister is the founder of footwear label Charlotte Olympia, has previously fronted campaigns for Spanish high street retailer Mango as well as risqué lingerie brand Agent Provocateur.

'Understanding how much work goes into one red-carpet dress makes me really careful when choosing a dress for the Oscars,' says Stewart, who is known for creating looks of a chic simplicity. 'We often have a lot of choices and I know how lucky that is, and how much [work] is behind every choice we have to hand.'

Stewart sees her role as 'channelling into' an actress's style. 'It's very important to me to incorporate that,' she says. 'I just bring my taste to it. The best way to start is to meet [an actress] to try things on and learn what works on their body and what they like. Celebrity stylists exist less because actresses need to be made over and more because it's simply physically impossible between shooting and doing press interviews for an individual to get the 30 outfits she needs for any given press tour.'

Kemal Harris and Karla Welch have spent the past six years dressing a gaggle of young Hollywood actresses, among them Olivia Wilde and Zooey Deschanel. Yet it wasn't until this year that the pair became widely known, having put the 14-year-old Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, the star of True Grit , in a series of beautiful yet youthful gowns for her awards-season debut.

'We were very conscious that Steinfeld needed to look her age and be dressed appropriately,' says Welch, 37. She and Harris, who is 40, called in dresses from Prada, Marchesa and Prabal Gurung, an up-and-coming New York designer, and often tailored the designs to fit the actress's tiny frame.

Welch acknowledges that transforming an actress for the red carpet is 'very strategic… Most of the girls we work with realise they're a product. The people in the room at the events they attend are giving them their jobs… How they look will result in what kind of business they get.'

Jessica Paster was one of the original crop of stylists to swoop on Hollywood and the awards ceremonies in the late 1990s. Her client list runs the gamut from Annette Bening and Kate Beckinsale to Dakota and Elle Fanning, Emily Blunt and Andrea Riseborough.

For Paster, 35, it's important to make sure that she and the actresses have what she calls 'fashion chemistry' . 'You're spending so much time with them - you're doing fittings, you're in their lives quite a bit once they're promoting a movie,' she says. 'You have to see if your personalities mesh. And you have to see if your style meshes with theirs. I'm lucky [as] the girls I work with have a very good fashion eye and that's very helpful.'

The evening was anchored by RJ Rohit Barker, who kept the crowd on their feet in a lively manner. A few of the City’s best known models showcased Avirate’s latest ‘Fall-Holiday Collection’, which comprised a range of day and evening wear, lingerie, shoes and accessories in diverse patterns and designs.

The ‘Daywear’ theme was inspired by Paris and incorporates a modern take on 1920s’ styling. Shapes include Bohemian kaftans, basic shifts, wrap dresses and playful jumpsuits and rompers. It has everything that one needs from dawn to dusk.

‘Myriad Prints’ include animal prints, ethnics graphics and florals motifs while ‘Colours’ include shades of blue, white and raspberry underpinned with lowlights of black as well as saffron, cinnamon and tobacco with a highlight of teal.

The ‘Evening Wear’ collection is chic, inspired by glamour in a vibrant array of colours. Prints, pleats, origami and embellishments add the extra bling. It is said that Avirate is meant for women of all shapes and sizes. “We cater to women from 18 to 45 years. The fabric is light and easy to carry off. The price too is made affordable to college-goers and working professionals,” said the spokesperson of Avirate.

The evening saw the Page 3 regulars attending the event in large numbers. The show that was choreographed by Sheetal Sharma was in tune with the funky collection. More than the launch, it was an occasion for families and friends to get together. Although the evening began a good hour-and-a-half late, people didn’t seem to mind the delay and hung around chatting and socialising.

Avirate boasts of a talented team of designers who keep pace with the changing fashion tastes across the world. The brand introduces new styles each week. Those who came for the show said what struck them most was the impressive range of wearable clothes.

Dayana Erappa, a model, said that she really loved what she wore. “The store looks posh and stylish from the outside but I must say the collection is wearable and price is most affordable. I didn’t think twice before picking a top I really liked,” she said. Seema, another guest at the event said, “The clothes are colourful and I also found something that I have been looking for.”

Exciting news, you guys! The new Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2012 campaign has just landed – and who are Christopher Bailey's latest muses? None other than Eddie Redmayne and Cara Delevingne.

It's no secret that the enviably-browed Cara has slotted seamlessly into the Burberry fold. She first appeared in the S/S'11 campaign, followed by those Burberry Beauty ads, and has opened several of the brand's London Fashion Week catwalk shows, including the latest for S/S'12.

As for Eddie, it may come as a surprise to hear he’s already in Bailey's crew too. Remember the S/S'08 campaign when Agyness Deyn was jumping about with a hot male? Yep, that's our Eddie. Four years later and we're very pleased to see him reinstated as the quintessential Burberry hero, wrapped in a parka and holding a cuppa tea. What more could you ask for?

But aside from wooing blonde bombshells, the actor is set to star in a mega film production of 'Les Miserables' while Cara is venturing into acting herself for the latest adaptation of 'Anna Karenina'. Ann Taylor may be better known as your mother's favourite store than your own, but thanks to a new campaign, it looks set to become a fashion destination for those in their twenties too.

The Style For Students online lookbook takes its lead from street style blogs like Scott Schumann's Sartorialist and Jak and Jill, featuring girls from universities across the U.S. wearing the label's latest collections.

Each photo is accompanied by a short description of each girl, describing her career goals and approach to personal style.

Visitors to the site can then 'like' their favourites, as they might a Facebook post, and by doing so, be entered to win $500 worth of merchandise.

Already there are a few clear favourites. Corinna, who is studying International Affairs and Global Public Health at George Washington University already has 818 'likes' for her white shirt, black pencil skirt and fur stole.

Nimisha, from the same college, is not far behind with 801 votes for her nautical-inspired white trousers and royal blue top.

The engineering student, who hopes to work on Wall Street, says: 'When I wear an outfit, I don’t want it to be fashionable for a particular era – I want it to be fashionable in any era.'

Other, newer additions to the site, look set to rival them though. Claire, from Columbia University, only has 40 votes, but with her Isabel Marant-alike red jeans and crisp white Stella-style blazer, that number looks set to soar.

The third instalment of the hit series, titled as 'Munnabhai Ki Aatma Katha' will continue with the original pairing of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra said.

Burying reports of the actor duo not being part of the 'Munnabhai' series, Chopra said, "Sanjay and Arshad are returning to play Munna and Circuit. We are developing the script right now."

The clutch of the moment- Fashion Style

Last month I became privy to a strange trend that seemed to involve the experimental preservation of human beings. Shrink wrap, bubble wrap, perspex - you name it, fashion's gone whacko for anything see-through and unbreathable. When writing the original trend report, I (stupidly) assumed that we were safe from this trend, because nobody in their right mind would wear Glad Wrap clothing for real. But that's where I slipped up. I should have realised that with see-through plastic shoes come other see-through plastic accessories. Like clutches.

Let's cue in our local angle right about now. The see-through trendin' stylin' rather freaky deeky clutch I'm holding is by Mardle. You may have seen a brief snippet of it here, but when we're talking new trends as big as this bad boy it really needs more than one breath.

The Mardle clutch began because designer Shiana watches international trends with an eagle eye. Her magpie trending eyes spotted this:

Article numero uno. While Chanel has done clear plastic handbags many times in the past, this is one of the first great clear clutches I've seen. It's by accessories label Charlotte Olympia - by Charlotte Dellal, Alice Dellal's sister for the fans out there of shaved sides.

Article numero dos. That's two. Prada did it too.

But the thing that I really love about Charlotte Olympia's version (and the thing that Shiana loved too) is that there are interchangeable inners. Because we like options, it helps us work with more than one outfit. Now this two-(or four)-for-the-price-of-one hype is generally reserved for the "budget" consumer - he who buys reversible jackets, 2 in 1 shampoo, and loves transformers. Just kidding about the transformers.

But you'll agree with me that this mentality is refreshing to see in the luxury market. I'm not sure whether this is a sign of the economic recession, or simply that the novelty factor of interchangeable anything (like transformers) is rather quaint for the consumers of luxury goods (the rich kids).

Whatever the reason, Charlotte gave us three different inners in one clear box:

"The first thing that came to mind when I saw these clear clutches was creating a fluorescent yellow, purple and black plastic covered pencil case way back when I was in Sewing Tech at the age of 12. With this in mind I also wanted to jump on the fluoro bandwagon that's trending right now in Europe and combine the two ideas," she says.

Here's the "all clear" option - just edit what you carry in your clutch because everyone can see. I opted for safe-as-houses wallet, spare ring and cellphone, and hid my tampons safely in my coat pocket:

Thanks to the gloomy financial crisis, recycling our old clothes might just be the ultimate fashion trend of 2011.

But, if you're sick of rummaging through your wardrobe, you may want to try this...

Scottish Designer of the Year nominee, Judy Clark has designed a dress made of used car parts.

The stunning dress was created as part of a challenge to creat a unique dress and necklace for Ford's centenary tour, a month-long event celebrating 100 years of Ford in Britain.

Judy Clark, from Edinburgh, worked under the late Alexander McQueen and assisted in the design of Sarah Jessica Parker's now famed green dress, which she donned for the premier of Sex and the City back in 2008.

"My reaction when they approached me was one of delight to be a part of such a unique project as it's very different to what I normally do," Judy says. "I would say that inspiration for the dress was taken from the Edwardian period and I actually started to design the dress before the car parts arrived."

The dress, which boasts a fusion of silk-dyed chiffon, red car lights, kilt buckles and Clark's trademark tweed work, is a fitting reference to the recycling trend set by her former mentor during Paris Fashion Week back in Fall, 2009.

Also taking part in the challenge by creating a necklace, was 26 year-old Katherine Hawkins from Cornwall who runs a jewellery design business called Creme Noveau. Describing the inspiratiuon behind the necklace as a tribute to Metropolis, the vintage science fiction robotics movie, Katherine said that she was rather daunted by the prospect when she was approached by Ford.

"When the box of car parts arrived, I didn't really know what to expect," Katherine explains. "It doesn't help that I can't actually drive so at first I didn't know what the parts were for! But once I got them spread out to see how they look and sit and how I could work with them, the idea came very quickly and I was able to use really cool metals, plastics and rubbery bits."

The shoot was handled by photographer, Andy Fallon, who has worked on a variet of shoots ranging from Rolling Stone Magazine to FHM.

Stay fit, stay fabulous. That’s the mantra actor Bipasha Basu swears by. A fitness enthusiast, the 32-year-old Bollywood diva talks about fitness, fashion winter care and lot more:

I’m a fitness enthusiast and it takes a lot of discipline and
special care to get a fit body. It is important that you exercise everyday to stay fit. The main emphasis should be on working out the abs and lower limbs.

A mix of cardio and weight training helps. These are important just not for a good bikini body but a fit and fabulous body in general. I also stick to a specific diet and keep away from sweets. I never indulge in junk food and most importantly, I eat on time. I’m glad I did all this because my discipline has paid off and I have received umpteen compliments for the look.

How do you take care of yourself in winter?
I primarily take a healthy diet comprising vitamin B2 or Riboflavin. A good moisturiser helps a long way in keeping skin nourished in this season. Chapped lips are one of the most common problems in this season so a good lip balm is a must. I use Vasocare and even apply a thin coat before putting on lipstick. Most importantly, even if you don’t feel thirsty, keep yourself well- hydrated by having lots of water. I drink around eight glasses of water every day.

Do you plan to roll out more fitness videos in future?
My fitness DVD, Bipasha Basu Love Yourself — Fit and Fabulous You was appreciated and has inspired me to work towards my next DVD.

I am aiming at launching a series of DVDs in 2012. My first DVD was more women-centric so my male fans wrote back requesting not to neglect them. So, now I am working towards something that will be beneficial for both men and women.

Lastly, what is your fashion mantra?
Comfort comes first. I prefer my garments to be comfortable and of course fashionable. I pick garments which reflect my personality and my penchant for fitness.

Twenty-three year old Rihanna will be releasing her own fashion line through Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans.

A spoke model for Armani, singer Rihanna will now debut a new clothing line that the Umbrella songstress designed herself, according to The Boombox. The Armani collection, that falls under Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans, will feature some of the well known articles of clothing Rihanna enjoys wearing.

Set to hit stores this coming month, the line will include some of Rihanna's must have pieces fans have seen the star don before. As seen on the Vogue website, the “capsule collection” will feature lingerie, t-shirts with the singer’s face, biker jackets, and denim, some with a signature ‘R’ embroidered on it.

Also revealed by Vogue, the Rihanna fashion line plans to sell “a canvas rucksack, jeans in two different styles and sets of lace underwear that come in navy blue and pearl grey.”

Her looks and personal style are admired in the film industry, and among the current pack of actresses, she was the only one who dared to sport her natural curls in her very first film - an unconventional move for an actress in straight-hair obsessed Bollywood. The actress even managed to turn the look into a trendy style statement.

Friday caught up with Kangna at Deira City Centre to find out more about her take on beauty and fashion.

Hair: One thing I've realised is that sporting various hairstyles in films can damage your tresses. There have been films where I've worn my natural curls but then I've also had to get it poker-straight for a few, and then I've had to sport a completely different style in others! All that drastic styling and the use of chemicals have taken a toll on my hair and I'm beginning to lose a lot of it. I pamper my tresses regularly with intensive repair treatments. Three times a week, I treat my hair to hot oil and steaming.

Beauty secret: I do yoga regularly and eat a balanced diet. I firmly believe that you can't get away with treating your skin badly and then expect make-up to do wonders for you. It won't. The base of good make-up is a healthy, hydrated skin. Once you eat right, drink loads of fluids and include exercise in your daily schedule, make-up can work its magic for you.

Make-up: You can't be loyal to a single label when you have to create so many different looks. I pick from a lot of different brands depending on the effect I'm going for, the occasion and my dress. On film sets, if I'm portraying a dramatic character and need intense make-up, I would choose a brand such as MAC for my face, eyes and lips. But when I need to create a less dramatic look or for my regular daytime look, I go for a lighter base like YSL and Armani lip shades. I also like Chanel's make-up, especially its shimmer products.

Healthy image: Looking good is all about having healthy hair, skin and body, no matter what size you are.

Fashion: I think Indian designers are doing some great work. I love Tarun Tahiliani's creations. Then there's Sabyasachi Mukherjee and I've recently come to love Reza Sharaffi's work quite a lot. All the gorgeous Indian dresses you saw me wearing in Tanu Weds Manu were done by Reza. Among international designers, Stella McCartney is my absolute favourite. I also like Alexander McQueen's dresses but they are a bit dramatic so I would wear them for the movies and not for everyday. I also like Armani and Versace.

In my personal life, if it's a formal event and I have to meet a lot of people, I would wear an elegant cocktail dress but if I'm going out with friends on the weekend I don't bother much and just go out in shorts.

Most stylish actor: Akshay Kumar. I think his wife Twinkle Khanna works her style magic when planning his wardrobe.

The world of fashion: While filming Fashion, I almost lived like a supermodel. A model's life seems a bit easier than that of a film star's. They enjoy the media attention and their focus is on looking good. On the other hand, we actors have to rehearse our roles, learn dialogue, work on our voice modulation and research the films and of course, we have to look good.

Designer Marc Jacobs honored friend and artist Cindy Sherman as he presented her with The Art Superstar award. Other designers that graced the stage of Carnegie Hall included Tory Burch, who received The Fashion Force award given to her by actress Jessica Alba, not only for her entrepreneurial mind and spirit but also for her nonprofit Tory Burch foundation. Donatella Versace awarded Jennifer Lopez as The All-Star.

"I'm gonna make a guess about all these women - that they have something in common with me," said Lopez as she accepted her award. "That they were surrounded by other strong, loving women who helped create what they came to be. It's the women in my life that helped me and shaped me into the woman I am today."

Other honorees included a Special Recognition award for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, whose husband and stepdaughters accepted on her behalf. The Generations Award went to Laura Bush and daughters Barbara and Jenna. The Diva Next Door Award went to Lea Michele, and The Lifetime Achievement winner went to "The Woman Who Started It All," Gloria Steinem, who truly did start women's empowerment as we know it today.

"It's a beautiful night," said a humbled Lopez. "It really inspired me."

Believe it or not, the Victoria's Secret fashion show belonged to the boys on Wednesday night.

It was Kanye West, Jay-Z and Maroon 5 who got the audience clapping and cheering at the annual lingerie extravaganza at the Lexington Avenue Armory, quite a feat considering they were sharing the stage with the some of the world's top models -- in barely-there get-ups, no less.

The show, which also featured a song by Nicki Minaj, who was decked out in a bright orange bustier, cosmic-print skirt and leggings, and a frothy pink wig, will be televised on CBS on Nov. 29.

The worlds of fashion and music always come together on this runway, which is more for entertainment, excitement and brand-building than a serious preview of styles. It really clicked this time, though, when Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine escorted his girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna down the catwalk and then planted a kiss on her cheek.

She was wearing a push-up bra covered with a crystal-encrusted body overlay. Model Constance Jablonski strutted to 'Moves Like Jagger' in an illusion beaded gown with a feather mermaid hemline, and Karlie Kloss wore a corset-style bodysuit covered in tropical colored beads.

A lot of the backstage buzz before the show was about West, who was originally scheduled for the 2007 show but pulled out after his mother's death. Doutzen Kroes and Chanel Iman were among the top Victoria's Secret models, dubbed VS Angels, who posed with him in their micro-mini pink satin robes and told him they expected his set to be a highlight of the night.

Donatella 'cancelled Versace for H&M shoot with real women as models because they did not fit her branding'

As a global fashion chain, H&M prides itself on catering to women of all shapes and sizes.

But its latest collaborator appears not to share the same values.

Donatella Versace has apparently refused to allow designs from her Versace for H&M line to be modelled by 'real women' instead of professional models.

According to the New York Daily News, the designer refused to 'approve' two of the women chosen for its photo shoot last Friday.

The paper was initially told by a PR for H&M that 'Donatella will likely not approve shooting the collection on real women.'

Later, the publicist refused to loan garments on the grounds that the chosen models did not 'fit [Versace's] branding.'

All women were by no means large - the reporter told MailOnline that they ranged in dress size from a U.S. zero to a six.

'I was very disappointed,' he said of the shoot cancellation. 'I really wanted to showcase the collection on real women... to empower women and make them feel good in [designs by] such a highly-regarded designer.'

All three 'real women' are recent graduates who live and work in New York City.

They, too were disappointed, the reporter admitted. All the girls were fans of the collaboration and had been eager to model it.

Daily Mail Fashion Director Liz Jones said Versace's decision is at odds with H&M's usual, democratic approach to fashion.

She told MailOnline: 'This is so typical of 99.9 per cent of designers: they only want their clothes worn by the very young and the very thin.

'This is because the clothes are probably not cut well, not in great fabrics, have no corsetry or intricate draping. It takes a better designer with more skill to dress women who have a bit of shape.

'I am very disappointed in Donatella, but it is true that female designers, with only the occasional exception, are just as inept as the male ones.

'H&M prides itself on being accessible to all. For Donatella to 'ban' ordinary women goes against what the high street store stands for. Shame on her.'

Today, the H&M press office told Racked.com that the whole situation was little more than a misunderstanding.

A spokesman said: 'We are very surprised by the NY Daily news article and do not understand how they came to this conclusion. We can only explain it as a misunderstanding and a series of miscommunication [sic].

'H&M is a democratic fashion brand and it is not our policy to decide models for fashion features in media.

'Both H&M and Versace have, over many years, cast from a wide and diverse pool, not only of models, but of celebrities and personalities reflective of all ethnicities, gender, ages and sizes.'

Luckily for the 'real women', they will get a chance to appear in print after all. The Daily News reporter told MailOnline that they will instead be appearing in a cocktail party-themed feature on Thursday.

Instead of the H&M garments they had hoped to use, the girls modelled partywear by Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, Asos and Bloomingdales, noe of which had any issue with the models.

The Versace for H&M line goes on sale in the U.S. from November 19. It is expected to spark the same customer demand as previous designer collaborations by the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney.

As well as womenswear it will include menswear and homewares, with prices from around $20 up to $299.

A new slimming formula says a mere pair of shoes if chosen carefully can have a dramatic slimming effect on the wearer - creating the illusion of having dropped a dress size.

So dramatic is the effect that when asked to guess the dress size of the same model in two images, people shown the image of her wearing the slimming shoes gave an average of one size smaller than those shown a picture of her without the "magic" shoes on.

The 'winning formula' appears to be a nude shoe with a platform heel, department store Debenhams revealed.

"If followed to the letter, this formula gives women the chance to walk in the shoes of the famous tricksters of our time - creating a slimmer silhouette in an instant," the Daily Mail quoted the Head of accessories for Debenhams Natelle Baddeley as saying.

Technologists created the formula when they noticed an onslaught of celebrity women, including Kate Middleton, Victoria Beckham and most recently Ed Miliband's wife Justine wearing similar nude high heels.

The formula combines a combination of tricks that give the impression of lengthened legs and tighter thighs while encouraging the torso to be pushed out, in turn flattening the stomach.

"This is a diet in a shoe! Once you have found the perfect pair all you need to do is slip on your shoes to instantly transform your silhouette. It's the perfect party cheat," Baddeley added.

How Adriana Lima gets in shape for Victoria's Secret fashion show

Victoria's Secret models may appear to be naturally blessed with flawless figures.

But one Angel has revealed it takes much more than good genes to make the grade on the catwalk.

Adriana Lima admits she goes to dramatic lengths to perfect her body in time for the annual show - including working out twice a day and living on a diet of protein shakes made from powdered eggs.
The mother-of-one also drinks a staggering gallon of water a day - and no liquids for 12 hours ahead of the show on Wednesday.

Adriana, 30, told The Telegraph: 'No liquids at all so you dry out, sometimes you can lose up to eight pounds just from that.'

The model has spent countless hours in the gym boxing and lifting weights, working out every day from August and bumping up to twice a day three weeks before hitting the runway.

For nine days, she will have no solid foods.
She said: 'It is really intense, it's not really the amount of time you spend

working out, it's the intensity: I jump rope, I do boxing, I lift weights, but I get bored doing that.

'If I am not moving I get bored very easily.'

And is it worth it? Lima is adamant that it is.

She says: 'Actually, the Victoria's Secret show is the highlight of my life.

'Becoming an Angel, once I achieved that, it was a dream-come-true for me.

'And I know that after all this is done, when I sit down with my daughter one day we are going to look back and it's going to be very special.' And it seems it's not just their exercise regimes that are tough.

The Angels also have a hard time when it comes to their love life.

Fellow Victoria's Secret model Candice Swanepoel complained that men try too hard to impress her.

Candice said: 'I think it's harder to date as an angel, when people meet you it's hard to look past our job, what we look like.

'They are always trying to impress you, you know, like "come to my mansion blah blah blah."

Right to wear arms: Armoury, the hot new fashion trend

Arms are the punctuation mark of the body: to hug, to hold, to seize, to embrace. And a well-toned arm is a very sexy thing, as Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge have proved.

But exposing your arms can also be a sartorial nightmare. A recent survey found that 75 per cent of women hated their upper arms more than any other part of their body.

But finally, fashion retailers are listening. Dubbed "armoury", stylish cover-ups, shrugs, shawls, stoles and capes are the hot new fashion trend. According to Natalie Bagley, head of womenswear accessory design at Debenhams: "It's all about the transition wardrobe. What we are seeing is a rise in items which have multi-end use, such as gilets, wraps and lightweight pashminas in a fashion colour. Cover-up pieces that you throw on and layer up for day to evening."

But it is Mary Portas's new sculptwear that seems to have revolutionised the "arm market", if rocketing sales figures are anything to go by. Working with her wife, Grazia fashion journalist Melanie Rickey, Mary Portas came up with the Armery, which costs from £17.50. It is essentially tights for the arms - a stretchy high-denier hosiery tube in various colours and weaves (magenta, deep purple, black lace), with a hole in the "gusset" area allowing you to slip your arms inside.

This curious garment hugs your limbs, neatly pulling in any upper-arm sag in the process. Wearing it is like layering without the bulk. You can wear the Armery under sleeveless tops and dresses - revealing a sexy hint of arm, or an expanse of well-toned back.

Such has been its popularity that it flew out of the store. Maker Charnos has now added new colours and an extra M/L size has been introduced.

Last week when I visited Mary Portas's new shop in House of Fraser, Oxford Street, grown women were battling over the Armery. I managed to snap up the last indigo model. And during a week of publicity for my new book, Dangerous Women: A Guide to Modern Life, it proved a godsend.

During TV interviews, awkward angles were minimised. I could sling the garment in my handbag when I wasn't using it (it weighs less than a pair of tights), and in this bonkers autumn weather it stopped me sweating with a huge coat. Charnos says students are buying them for bar-hopping.

For our launch party I wore my Armery over a Vivienne Westwood corset top. I'd intended to take it off after the photos but actually it worked just like a long pair of evening gloves.

When it comes to taming upper triceps, everyone is getting in on the act. This week Asda announced a new T-shirt that promises to banish bingo wings without the need for diets and surgery. The "body sculpt control top" decreases the circumference of upper arms through a mesh of elasticated nylon and Lycra.

And M&S has just launched a "Personalised Fit" service where you choose the sleeve length of your LBD online. According to Neil Hendy, head of design for M&S Woman and Accessories: "M&S has conducted in-depth research through customer panels and the feedback has always been that women wanted more sleeve choice and length options in their dresses."
